Along with regular health issues, Larkfield
Surgery looks after the following aspects of
men's health:
This health check gives patients in good
health the opportunity to screen for medical
diseases and conditions. It consists of three
stages as follows:
1. Initial
Consultation:
The patient will have a 20 minute
appointment with the doctor for a "health
screening consultation". The doctor takes a
medical history identifying risk factors
including any symptoms they may have. The
doctor will also carry out a medical
examination relevant to the age and sex of
the patient.
2.
Investigation:
Investigations may include blood tests for
cholesterol, diabetes, prostrate, thyroid,
liver function, kidney function, full blood
count etc.
Urinalysis, 24hr blood pressure monitoring,
ECG, BMI (Body Mass Index), smear test and
mini-mental exams can also be carried out.
Chest xray, Exercise ECG (stress test),
ECHO Cardiogram, Cardiac Event Monitoring,
Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, Dexascan for
osteoporosis, MRI scan and other tests can
all be accessed easily at nearby
clinics.
3. Follow up
Consultation:
The patient will
be asked to make an appointment to discuss
the results of the screening process with a
doctor in the surgery. Appropriate plans
and goals are made at this consultation.
Referral may be made to relevant clinics,
consultants or other health-care workers.
Clarity is given to any unusual
results.
The results of the health screening are
incorporated into the patient's medical
record to be used in the future by the
patient and doctor in monitoring the
patient's health.
