Policies:
Appointments:
We aim to
give you an appointment within the current
consulting session and possibly at the end
of the session - for all urgent calls if
received at least half an hour before the
end of session, it should always be
possible to see you for an urgent condition
on the same day. For less urgent problems,
please decide yourself if you need to see a
doctor. Our secretaries are very helpful
and experienced but they ar enot medically
qualified so the ultimate decision rests
with you.

Telephone
Calls:
The secretaries have a wide range of
responsibilities one of which is to give
appointments. Although they are experienced
in giving advice, please remember that you
must make the decision regarding whether or
not you need to see the doctor.
You are requested to keep telephone
calls to the surgery as short as possible.
The telephone lines are very busy and long
calls obviously block the lines.
Calls during
consultations
It is the policy of the surgery not to
interrupt patient consultations with
unnecessary telephone calls. In the case of
an urgent call, the receptionist has the
authority to ring the doctor to see if a
phone call can be taken. In all other cases
the receptionist will pass messages onto
the doctor between consultations. The
doctor will call the patient back as
promptly as possible, dependent on the
doctor's schedule.

House
Calls:
House calls put pressure on the doctors
schedule. Therefore we request that such
calls be limited to the elderly without
transport, patients who are immobilised
with physical disability and patients who
are severely unwell.
It is simpler to bring children to
the surgery where an ill child will not be
kept waiting. Minor illness does often not
need a house call to be addressed
satisfactorily.
Fees:
Fees will vary but our standard
consultation fee is €60. You are welcome to
present all of your medical problems at the
one consultation and the doctor will
attempt to deal with all problems at the
one consultation, within reason and time
constraints. You are asked to outline
briefly all your complaints at the start of
the consultation so that they can be
prioritised and to start with your most
pressing complaint.
You will always have 15 minutes and will
usually have up to 25 minutes if required.
This does not apply in the case of special
consultations such as cervical smear
(restricted to gynae complaints),
cryotherapy, vaccination etc. - a separate
appointment will have to be made to discuss
general medical problems.
